76% of Americans say their kids have pushed for environmentally-friendly changes in their homes. But if you don’t have children, don’t let that stop you from having an eco-friendly house!
The truth is, we can all stand to do our part in helping the planet. That way, we can leave behind a better place for future generations.
Are you now pumped up and interested in saving the environment through your own actions? Then keep reading for 4 things you can do!
1. Use Your Car Less
Think about it: do you really need to drive your car 5 minutes away to do groceries? Do you and your friends need to individually drive to meet up for dinner when you don’t live that far away from one another?
Try to use your car less by going to the grocery store more often, but do it by bike. And carpool as much as possible if traveling by vehicle is necessary.
2. Eat Less Meat
We know many meat-eaters are annoyed by the “vegetarian/vegan agenda”. But the fact is, farms take up a lot of land and resources. Plus, they wipe out natural forestation.
Now, we’re not saying you should cut out all meat. Just try to eat a more plant-based diet! Not only will this be a change to a healthy lifestyle, but it’ll also reduce your carbon footprint. It’ll even cut down your grocery bill too!
3. Decrease Waste
You can decrease waste by being more conscious about the products you buy. Opt for something more durable and reusable rather than a flimsy, one-time-use item.
Before you throw things away, give them a second thought and see if you can upcycle them. For instance, you can propagate your plants in an old beer bottle!
Food waste is a huge thing we need to tackle too. If you have leftovers (whether it’s a meal or ingredients), try to be creative and pull together more meals out of these things. If the food’s rotten, then compost it to give it new purpose.
4. Have Solar Panels Installed
Solar power is one of the cleanest types of energy around. Not only is it easy to collect and harness energy without harming the environment, but using it doesn’t contribute to pollution either.
Join the ranks of environmentally-friendly homes and have solar panels installed. You’ll be less reliant on the grid and can even sell back extra energy in some places. Your initial investment will pay for itself in no time!
